THE HYPE OF LEIPZIG

Back at home I need to follow the question if there is another city taking over
Berlin as the hippest place around. The Guardian said Leipzig is the next big thing.
So I had to know what "HYPEZIG" is all about.

To good to be true. Leipzig was actually not that cheap as expected.

The local brew was surprisingly good.

And this sign in our neighbourhood gave some infomation
that there is probably more than beer in circulation here.

The old town was ok...

... old architecture meeting communist structures...

...but that was not what we have been here for...

We wanted to know what is so special about that city.

And that is definitley not its churches.

But the "Spinnerei", an old cotton factory turned into art and cultural spaces, was high on our list.

The contemporary art was not that convincing.

And locals told us that the "cool" times here have been already long over.

Yes, there still was some street art and underground culture.

But big commercial galleries seemd to have it all already in their hands.

The satisfaction we found in second hand book stores.

Nice selections and nice prices.

And some other antique stores made some difference.

But the underground scene was what we were actually looking for.

Interesting, but nothing new.

So we waited for the evening to come.

...

...

And then we needed to go back in the outside areas of Leipzig.
The night was coming. But the camera stayed at home.

Some legal and illegal bars and clubs later we arrived home in broad daylight.

To give some final note. Yes, Leipzig has some underground scene.
And yes, it can be nice and exciting (especially the "OST APOTHEKE").
But the scene is mainly dominated by a couple of students and
it is hardly comparable to other cities like Berlin or Hamburg.
Even the taxi driver (f**king expensive) said the clubbing scene already saw better days.
So are we actually too early for the next cool place to be...
... or are we already far too late and the word has just reached the papers now?

Next time journalists of magazines exploring the new BIG THING
should maybe also try to visit the places before they write about it.

Copypasting an article of the Guardian is not quite the same as a real time research...
